The tree lighting ceremony at Trafalgar Square at the Trafalgar Square will take place on 3rd December 2009. It is generally attended by a large number of people and is led by the Lord Mayor of Westminster. The ceremony features a band and a choir. The Christmas traditions in the city say that the tree offers a focal point for the Christmas carolling groups. It is generally decorated in the Norwegian style with thousands of white lights. This 20 – 25 metres tall tree has become an iconic Christmas image in London. The carolling and the tree lighting at the Trafalgar Square signal the countdown to Christmas in London. It will be the 63rd year of this tree at Trafalgar Square. The occasion celebrates friendship and goodwill on Christmas. This is the biggest Christmas tree in London and thus, it creates a magical atmosphere at Trafalgar Square. Soon after the tree lights ceremony the Champagne concert at St James’s, Piccadilly.

The extremely talented and well known pianist – Warren Mailey Smith will perform at the Champagne concert to be held at the St James, Piccadilly. This award winning pianist will play some of the most popular music at this special Christmas recital. The concert will also feature some dazzling variations of Tom Hodge on the theme of Paganini in the world premiere. Rowena Calvert will also join Smith a guest artists. Champagne will also be served after a 30 minute interval in the mesmerizing setup of St James’s. The concert will end at 21:15 and will be an exceptional early Christmas event.
